Smitha S. Krishnamurthi, MD is a medical oncologist specializing in the care of patients with gastrointestinal cancers. She is a staff physician in the Department of Hematology and Oncology at Cleveland Clinic and an Associate Professor of Medicine in the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine at Case Western Reserve University (CWRU). She completed her fellowship in Medical Oncology at the Johns Hopkins University after completing residency and medical school at the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Krishnamurthi is a member of the GI committee of SWOG. She is a member of the Colorectal Cancer Committee of the National Comprehensive Cancer Network. She is also a member of the Society for Immunotherapy of Cancer Gastrointestinal Cancers Immunotherapy Guidelines Expert Panel. Dr. Krishnamurthi teaches cancer biology to first-year students at CWRU School of Medicine and co-developed this curriculum. She has served as the Medical Director of the Clinical Research Office of the Case Comprehensive Cancer Center and led their Committee on Disparities in Clinical Research for 10 years. Her research interest is in clinical trials for patients with gastrointestinal cancers. She enjoys partnering with patient advocacy groups to raise awareness about early onset colorectal cancer.
